Optimist regatta in the ISAF Sailing World Cup

autralia

With the competition heating up as Rio approaches, we have also reinvented our Event with the move to a new location at the St Kilda Sailing Precinct, right in the middle of the action only 3 km from the centre of Melbourne.

Invited Youth Classes Regatta

This new venue will put the sailing in front of the general public and will assist us in making this a major Event not to be missed. In addition to the Olympic and Paralympic classes in the ISAF Sailing World Cup, we also host an Invited / Youth Classes Regatta at the same time.  This Invited Classes Regatta has large, quality fleets for the next generation of Olympic sailors, alongside their heroes and includes:

  • International Optimist
  • Open Bic
  • Minnow
  • Laser 4.7
  • Laser Radial (men/boys)
  • 420
  • 29er
  • Hobie 16
  • Viper; and
  • Bic Techno

In addition to all of the International Olympic Class competitors we would love to see as many as possible youth and junior sailors attend to start their path to Tokyo 2020 and beyond.

Optimist Class

Additionally for 2015 we are excited about a new aspect to this year’s regatta for the Optimist Class.  On top of the standard fleet racing (106 entries in 2014) we are introducing the “Sail Melbourne Optimist Nations Cup” being run at the same time.

The broad details are as follows:

  • Teams of 6 sailors + 2 adults (coach / guardian) primarily from Oceanian / Asia to compete and represent their country.
  • Points of the top five sailors from each team from each race count towards the Teams score.
  • Teams arrive on Monday 7th December and depart Monday 14th December 2015, with racing starting from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th .
  • There will be a range of off water and social activates arranged by the Victorian International Optimist Dinghy Association (VIODA).

Three levels of costs for competitors:

Option 1: $1,500 per child, which is inclusive of:

  • Optimist Open Regatta (10th – 13th Dec) – Entry Fee
  • Optimist Nations Cup (10th – 13th Dec) (Teams event) – Entry Fee
  • Charter boat
  • Accommodation at the Novotel St Kilda,  2 min walk to the venue (twin share)

  • Prize giving function

Option 3: $340 per child, which is inclusive of:

Coaches,  Managers, Guardians and Parents:

  • To ensure that all teams have an adequate level of supervision, each team is to be accompanied by a minimum of 2 adults / guardians.  However we are very keen and welcome more parents / guardians to come to the event to participate / spectate, and for these parents / guardians we can offer the Event participants discount of 22.5% off at the Accor Group hotels (Novotel St Kilda, Pullman Albert Park or Mercure Albert Park).
  • In addition the Event can assist you with finding suitable coach / support boats for your use during the Regatta.

This new “Optimist Nations Cup” (along with the individual regatta honours) in conjunction with the ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne Event is something we are very keen to grow into an annual fixture in the Oceania / Asia region. If you require any further information or would like to request a team entry please contact Lesley Fasala (Yachting Victoria – Regatta Manager) on +61 412 502 395 or events@yachtingvictoria.com.au and of course we would love to see sailors from you country across all of the classes both youth and Olympic.
